Mountains and Lakes
Nearby Camp Sastavci there are National parks "SUTJESKA" and "DURMITOR"
which are the treasury of natural resources: mountain massifs, lakes, animal and herbal kinds.
NATIONAL PARK "SUTJESKA"
It has been established in 1962 and surface of it is 70952 Ha: area of Sutjeska with strict reservation of
Perucica( 1.291ha), parts of mountains
Maglic (highest peak of BaH - 2.386m),
Volujak,
Vucevo and
Zelengora.
Apart from historical values this area has a distinctive natural values and beauties which are different
types of landscape from mild valleys, thick forests over mountain meadows and high crags to high mountain massifs.
There are a lot of glacier lakes, and especially interesting strict natural reservoir Perucica, which is most known,
biggest and most protected primeval forest in Europe. Also interesting are canyons of the rivers Sutjeska, Hrcavka
and Jabucnica. Valuable is the fond of wild animals and rare herbal kinds.
Special charm and beauty have clear mountain glacier lakes:
Orlovacko 1.580 m.,
Crno 1.480 m,
Bijelo 1.460 m,
Donje Bare 1.550 m,
Gornje Bare 1.650 m,
Trnovacko 1.517 m i druga.
Most beautiful and most valuable pearl among forests within National park Sutjeska is
primeval forest Perucica. It spreads on the area of river Perucica with
waterfall Skakavac - 81m, with the surface of 1290Ha and it is one of the most protected reservoirs in Europe.
NATIONAL PARK "DURMITOR"
It has been established in 1952. It is situated in northern area of Montenegro 390km2. It includes
Durmitor,
one of the highest and most attractive mountains of the Dinaridi massif,
with the highest peak Bobotov kuk 2626m and Tara canyon deepest in Europe. On this area are
harmonized impressive landscape spots of glaciers, several glacier lakes and other rare hydrological
phenomenon. There are rare world of flora and fauna. It represents pearl of nature in primeval shape.
In the area of the camp and wider there are several cultural-historic monuments,
which are proof of tempestuous history of this area.
PLooking at the colorant landscape of the area of Durmitor, man cannot not to think of
the origin of this dramatic landscape and influence of powerful natural forces, which took part in its creation.
Distinctive feature is given by clear, green blue shades of the lakes, which are
the element of recognition of the mountain. In 1899 great scientist Jovan Cvijic named them
MOUNTAIN EYES :
Vrazje jezero (Devils lake) - 1.411 m,
Valovito 1.695 m,
Susicko jezero,
Veliko Skrcko 1.686 m, Zminje 1.520m,
Crno 1.418 m, i druga.
Here we must mention:
Sedlo,
Prutaš,
Stožina.
FLORA AND VEGETATION IN NATIONAL PARKS
In vegetation aspect, provisional character of the climate of the area is suitable for mixed content of the
forest and herbal communities divided into four height belts of vegetation: hilly, with forests of beech ,
black hornbeam, maple, ash; upper hilly with forests of beech, fir, juniper; pre mountain with forests of
pine, fir and juniper and mountain wit pine trees.
Here we can find almost all herbal kinds and vegetation which can be found in high mountains of Dinara massifs.
Difference and richness of the herbal world and among them numerous endemic kinds attracts lots of foreign and
domestic scientists and researchers and today we can say that here exists preserved natural lab and "open book"
of the nature, which is of great importance for wide specter of scientist-researcher disciplines, for education
as well as for tourism.
FAUNA IN NATIONAL PARKS
These areas are settled with different fauna world. First place belong to the spineless kinds,
according to their richness and interesting features, with numerous endemic kinds, especially among insects.
Animal world consists of: bear, wild goats, dears, wolves, wild hogs, fox, squirrel, otter, wild cats and others.
From several kinds of birds we point out: great grouse, eagle, eagle crusader, hawk, falcon, owls,
sparrow hawks, partridge and others.
In waters of this area lives: trout, etc.
